HIV Testing & Prevention (HTP)
The HIV Testing and Prevention program reduces HIV stigma and encourages African American and Latinx heterosexual between the ages of 13-60 in the New Orleans area to access HIV testing services and care. HTP is a high impact prevention program with five key components: Targeted HIV Testing, Anti-Retroviral Treatment and Access to Services (ARTAS), Community PROMISE, the PAUSE social marketing campaign, and condom distribution. ARTAS provides linkage to care for newly diagnosed people living with HIV or people previously diagnosed). Community PROMISE is a community-level intervention that uses peer advocates and role model stories to influence changes in behavior to reduce the risk of getting HIV. HTP is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
HTP has tested over 1500 people since mid-2015.
HTP has given out over 20,000 condoms since mid-2015.
Community PROMISE (Peers Reaching Out and Modeling Intervention Strategies) is a community-level HIV risk reduction intervention that utilizes Peer Advocates (PAs), Role Model Stories and condom distribution to promote safer sex practices and provide information. To effectively promote change in their communities, PAs are selected and trained in HIV outreach and they distribute safer sex kits and information to their peer networks. Safer sex kits include condoms, lube, resource guides and stories of their peers' positive behavior changes.
Our Antiretroviral Treatment and Access to Services (ARTAS) Program offers confidential, one-on-one linkage-to-care services for individuals who are recently diagnosed with HIV or who have fallen out of HIV care. With early detection and consistent treatment, a person living with HIV may achieve a suppressed viral load, which can lead to a long, healthy life and prevent HIV transmission to their sexual partners. Our ARTAS Program Coordinator meets with clients to set goals, overcome barriers and assess strengths that will help them access and stay in treatment and and support services.
To participate in ARTAS, call or text (504) 513-3341.
